Our Wooden Planters, A Lasting Presence in Dromore, Northern Ireland
Posted on April 24, 2026
Back in 2017, we produced a series of bespoke timber planters for a public realm project in Dromore, Northern Ireland.
At the time, they left our East Yorkshire workshop bound for their new home — carefully made and ready to be installed, but ultimately out of sight to us once they arrived. Like many projects, we saw them at the point of completion, but not as part of the finished place.

Recently, we’ve had the chance to see them again — this time in situ, now fully embedded within the town centre and quietly doing what they were designed to do.
Historic Dromore town centre regeneration
Historic Dromore is a town centre regeneration initiative focused on improving the look, feel and usability of the town’s shared spaces. Through a combination of thoughtful design, interpretation panels and coordinated streetscape elements, the project helps to reconnect the present-day town with its past — highlighting key buildings, stories and local heritage.

Rather than a single development, the engraved timber planters form part of a series of considered improvements that work together to create a stronger sense of place. From paving and planting through to seating and signage, each element plays a part in shaping an environment that feels both functional and distinctive — encouraging people to spend time in the town and engage more closely with its character.
The wooden street planters form part of a wider initiative to enhance and celebrate the character of historic Dromore. Set around the town square and alongside Dromore Town Hall, they sit comfortably within a thoughtfully designed public space — alongside seating, paving, and newly planted trees.

What’s striking is how naturally the street planters have settled in. Positioned to frame open areas and soften the harder edges of the streetscape, they help define the space without dominating it. The timber has mellowed over time, and the planting has matured, bringing a sense of life and seasonality to the centre of the town.

It’s always rewarding to revisit a project like this. Not as a finished product in a workshop, but as part of everyday life — used, weathered, and integrated into its surroundings.
Years on, these wooden planters remain a small but important part of Dromore’s public realm — a reminder that well-made, well-placed pieces don’t need to shout to make a lasting contribution.
